Awka residents have written to Obiano to demolish the flyovers in Awka, esp the Aroma Junction flyover saying the flyover is causing more traffic jam

While Obiano is celebrating, commissioning and re-commissioning the flyovers he built at Awka, the state capital, it has been gathered that Awka residents have written to the governor to please demolish the flyovers especially the Aroma Junction flyover.

The commuters at Awka told APGA Interactive Forum reporter that the flyover instead of decongesting traffics within Awka is causing more traffic jam and has resulted to pains to motorists and road users.

They argued that the flyover was poorly designed and have asked that the governor demolish it and return to the old round about at Aroma.

According to the APC Anambra state spokesperson, Okelo Madukaife who is a resident of Awka, “everything is not politics, everyone experiences the snarl.”

“On Thursday evening at about 7.19pm, a radio station at Onitsha advised travellers passing Onitsha to Enugu to avoid Awka because of the congestion”, Okelo lamented.

Aroma junction is the downtown of Awka. The area records the busiest daily traffic in the city.

The area connects govt house, state house of Assembly, the state secretariat, state high court, Ekwueme square and major landmarks in the capital city. 

The flyover, This Forum learnt made the adjourning roads beneath the bridge narrow and constituted traffic hazard.

Before the construction of the flyover, Aroma junction was not witnessing traffic gridlocks as the roundabout was easing traffics. 

The residents of Awka have cried out and we are waiting to see if the governor can accede to their demand.

The demand to demolish the flyover and return to the old roundabout or do more expansion work which would warrant demolition of buildings and businesses within the area.
