Obiano, Obi meet again at youth forum, encourage agriculture

Governor Willie Obiano has reemphasized the need for youths in the state to fully key into the Agricultural vision of his administration so as to secure better living conditions for themselves. 

The governor spoke at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha during the maiden Catholic Youths convention in the state with the theme, “the role of youths in the contemporary society”.

It was organized by the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha featured paper presentations on purposeful living, entrepreneurship and youth development. 

It was another divine opportunity presented by fate for the incumbent governor and his predecessor, Peter Obi to encounter each other within the commercial city of Onitsha.

That was since their dramatic encounter at the burial mass of their late former school Principal, Fr Tagbo which held at their alma mater- Christ the King’s College, Onitsha two months ago.

Here, Obiano had pointed out that in recognition of the key role youths play in the development of any human society, his administration initiated a robust programme for their development across his chosen four key development pillars.

According to him, through the state government’s interventions, Agriculture has now been made more appealing and lucrative to all, especially the youths. 

He noted that if the youths take full advantage of government’s provisions in the sector, they can utilize their youthful potentials to achieve more for themselves.

He assured that under his watch, the state would continue to break new grounds in positive feats, adding that the onus lies on them to be good ambassadors of the State. 

The immediate past governor of the State, Chief Peter Obi in his remarks reminded the youths in the state that they are descendants of a rare breed of people who are renowned for positive advancements. 

He therefore urged them to depend less on government but to imbibe entrepreneurship skills that would help them towards self-actualization.

The Archbishop, Metropolitan, Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese,  Most Rev Valerian Okeke described youths as the backbone of any society.

He told them that with positive mindset and industry, they can positively change the society. 

The State Coordinator, Catholic Youths Organisation, Mr Paschal Okoye explained that the programme was designed to instill in the Catholic Youths,  the spirit of togetherness.

It is meant to create the opportunity for them to pray, reflect on and reassess how effective they have been in exercising their mandate as given by Christ.
