(DDM) – The Edo State Police Command has detained Obidient activist and political campaigner, Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, sparking outrage among supporters of the movement.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that her arrest followed a controversial confrontation with former Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Julius Abure, at the Abuja Airport, which has since gone viral across social media platforms.

According to reports, Mama P was taken into custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday.

Her detention was confirmed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, who raised alarm over what he described as “politically motivated harassment.”

Tanko revealed that Mama P was being held at the state CID headquarters, located off Sapele Road in Benin City.

He disclosed that the movement’s legal director had been contacted to deploy lawyers for her defense, while also urging wider legal and civil society support to demand her release.

“We need everyone’s support for her now,” Tanko declared, adding that the case required urgent intervention.

The arrest comes just days after a viral video circulated showing Mama P in a heated exchange with alleged thugs at Benin Airport.

In the clip, security personnel and immigration officers were seen stepping in as men attempted to drag her out of the exit door.

Mama P alleged that one of the attackers punched her in the eye, while another threatened to shoot her.

She accused Abure of masterminding the attack, claiming he mobilized thugs after she confronted him aboard a Max Air flight.

“I saw Julius Abure of Labour Party inside the plane, and I told him that he is destroying the lives of Nigerians,” Mama P said in the video.

She further alleged that after her comments, Abure called his supporters to wait for her at the Benin Airport, where the scuffle took place.

Observers note that the arrest underscores the growing tensions within the Labour Party and the Obidient Movement, which has been fractured by internal leadership disputes since the 2023 elections.

Abure has faced repeated criticism from members of the Obidient Movement, who accuse him of compromising party values and weakening the push for reforms.

The detention of Mama P has now become a flashpoint, with activists warning that it could deepen mistrust between Obidient supporters and state institutions.

Civil society groups and Obidient leaders are expected to mobilize further protests and legal action in the coming days.

As of press time, the Edo State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the matter, leaving supporters of the activist demanding clarity and justice.
