ENUGU, NIGERIA — The Obidient Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area chapter of the Obidient Movement in Enugu State has unveiled a free medical outreach programme targeting all wards in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, in support of Peter Obi’s vision for a better and more prosperous Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the coordinator of the movement in the local government area, the group said the outreach was designed to bring quality healthcare to underserved communities and to demonstrate the movement’s commitment to people-centred development. The programme will cover all wards in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area and will feature free medical consultations, health screenings, eye tests, blood pressure and diabetes checks, malaria treatment, and the distribution of essential medications.
“The Obidient Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area is pleased to announce a medical outreach programme aimed at providing free healthcare services to our communities. This initiative is in line with our principal, Peter Obi’s vision of a Nigeria where every citizen has access to quality healthcare, regardless of their location or economic status,” the statement read.
The group said the outreach would be conducted in partnership with medical professionals, volunteers, and community organisations, and called on well-meaning individuals and groups to support the initiative. It noted that the success of the programme would depend on the collective effort of all stakeholders.
“We are calling on medical professionals who share the same ideology, volunteers, organisations, and well-meaning individuals both at home and abroad to support and partner with us in making this outreach a success across all the wards in the Local Government Area,” the statement added.
The movement said the outreach would commence in the coming weeks, with medical teams deployed to various communities to provide services. It also said that a follow-up programme would be organised to ensure that patients with chronic conditions receive continued care and support.
The initiative has been welcomed by community leaders and residents in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, who described it as a timely intervention that would improve access to healthcare in the area. The Chairman of the Igbo-Etiti Traditional Rulers Council said the outreach would help to address the healthcare needs of the people, particularly in rural communities where access to medical services is limited.
“We commend the Obidient Movement for this initiative. Healthcare is a major challenge in our communities, and this outreach will go a long way in providing relief to our people. We urge our people to take advantage of the opportunity and to participate fully in the programme,” the traditional ruler said.
The Obidient Movement has been involved in various humanitarian and community development initiatives across the country, reflecting its commitment to social justice, equity, and the welfare of the people. The medical outreach in Igbo-Etiti is part of the movement’s broader efforts to demonstrate its vision for a better Nigeria and to mobilise support for Peter Obi’s presidential bid in 2027.
