At least 11 people have been killed and three others wounded after three gunmen opened fire at a house party in South Africa, police said on Wednesday.
The attack happened on Tuesday night in KwaMakhutha township, about 30 kilometres south of Durban, on the country’s east coast.
Police said the victims had gathered at the house for a party when the three suspects entered and opened fire.
Among those killed was a woman believed to have been pregnant, according to police.
The suspects fled the scene and remained at large as police continued their search. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday.
Police said the motive for the attack was still unknown, although some of the people at the house were known to them in connection with investigations into criminal activities.
“Although the motive of the shooting cannot be confirmed yet, feud between rival groupings cannot be ruled out,” police said.
The authorities did not provide further details about the criminal investigations involving some of the victims.
The shooting adds to a series of mass shootings recorded in South Africa in recent years.
In June, multiple gunmen killed 12 people in a poor neighbourhood in Johannesburg in another mass shooting.
Police are continuing investigations into the latest attack and searching for the suspects.
