RE: ULTIMATUM TO MR. PETER OBI BY THE AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (ADC)
Our attention has been drawn to the recent statement released by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) concerning the resolutions of the Coalition and the role of His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, within it.
We wish to restate our position without ambiguity. The Obidient Movement remains fully committed to the vision, mission, and objectives of the Coalition. We acknowledge the formal adoption of the ADC as the coalition platform.
It is, however, on record that Mr. Peter Obi aligned with the coalition’s position after the Anambra State Governorship Election, a commitment that was extended to the 2027 General Elections.
This adoption and pronouncement were publicly made by the party. We are therefore concerned as to why the resolution is now being altered midway into the agreement, when Nigerians expect unity and clarity of purpose from the coalition.
Mr. Peter Obi, as a leader with a broad constituency, has always emphasized wide consultation before making political decisions.
He followed this principle before joining the coalition, and the same approach is required before responding to any ultimatum.
As the Obidient Movement, being a principal consulting bloc in this coalition, we are deeply concerned about how the ADC intends to zone its presidential ticket ahead of 2027.
Given that the presidency is currently held by the South, issues of equity, fairness, and justice must guide such decisions. If the coalition truly intends to secure national victory in 2027, inclusivity must not be compromised.
We are equally monitoring how the party plans to zone its principal offices within the coalition, as this will ensure broad representation across Nigeria.
Justice and fairness in leadership sharing will enable effective mobilization across the North, South, East, and West.
It must also be emphasized that H.E. Peter Obi is not desperate to become President of Nigeria. His ultimate mission has always been to see Nigeria work for all its citizens.
His vision is to lift millions out of poverty, rebuild the economy, restore quality education, strengthen healthcare, and enhance security nationwide.
These were the reasons he joined the coalition in the first place to advance the core values of good governance, accountability, and people-first leadership, which remain the guiding principles of the Obidient Movement.
We therefore urge the ADC and coalition leadership to avoid divisive ultimatums and instead focus on the larger task: building a credible, united, and people-driven platform that Nigerians can trust in 2027.
Signed
Dr. Yunusa Tanko
