Odion Ighalo Retires From Super Eagles

Unofficial sources have disclosed that Odion Jude Ighalo has retired from the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.

According to our source, Ighalo broke news of his retirement on his WhatsApp platform on Wednesday.

However, Ighalo agreed with the Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, not to make a public statement before the 3rd place African Cup of Nations [AFCON] 2019 game against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

The match, which ended 1-0 in favour of Nigeria courtesy of a second minute goal  by Odion, was played yesterday.

If and when confirmed, Ighalo’s retirement will be the second in the day less than 24 hours after the Super Eagles won bronze in the AFCON championship going on in Egypt.

ElombahNews had earlier reported that the team captain, John Mikel Obi announced his retirement aged 32.

Citing reasons for his retirement, Mikel Obi said that it is time to give way for the blazing youths that made the Bronze medal possible to shine.

Barring any upset on Saturday when the final will be played between Senegal and Algeria, Odion Ighalo will emerge the highest goal scorer of the tournament with five goals to his credit.

ElombahNews will bring the confirmation or rebuttal as soon as Ighalo makes one.
