Ogun Boils Again as Suspected Cultist Executed in Cold Blood

A suspected member of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity cult group, Bashiru Saidu, was shot dead during a violent confrontation in Ogun State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the fatal incident occurred on Sunday night in the Atan-Ota area, along Bankole Onibukun Street, when Saidu, aged 44, was gunned down by four unidentified men.

According to reports, the assailants arrived at the scene on two motorcycles and fired directly at Saidu’s head before fleeing immediately, leaving him in a pool of blood.

Residents quickly alerted the police, and operatives from the Atan-Ota Division were dispatched to the area following a distress call received around 10:00 p.m.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said an investigation had been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing and to track down those responsible.

“The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal cult-related incident that claimed the life of one Bashiru Saidu, aged 44, along Bankole Onibukun Street, Atan-Ota in the Atan-Ota area of the state,” Odutola said.

She disclosed that Saidu’s body had been evacuated from the scene and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro for further examination and autopsy.

Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo has deployed the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit to lead a full investigation into the case.

The unit has been tasked with identifying and apprehending the killers, who are believed to be members of a rival cult.

Odutola also urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and proactive in reporting any suspicious activity within their neighborhoods to the nearest police station.

She assured the public that all efforts were being made to prevent further cult-related violence in the area.

This latest killing comes amid rising concerns over cult clashes in several parts of Ogun State, particularly in urban and semi-urban communities.

Security operatives have intensified patrols in known hotspots, while community leaders continue to call for increased youth engagement and reform to curb the menace of cultism.

As of press time, no arrests had been made, but police investigations were ongoing.
