Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has officially received the Touch of Unity in preparation for the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024.

The symbolic handover took place at the City Gate along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.

Dorcas Adesokan, a decorated athlete and double gold medalist at the 2014 African Youth Games, presented the Unity Touch to the governor.

Abiodun emphasized that the Touch of Unity, which began its journey in March, represents Nigeria’s collective dreams of unity and youth empowerment.

He noted that the National Sports Festival is more than just a sporting event—it is a celebration of national diversity and shared aspirations.

The Unity Touch, he said, symbolizes peace, sportsmanship, and the enduring spirit of the Nigerian people.

Governor Abiodun affirmed that Ogun State is committed to the values of friendship, collaboration, and national cohesion promoted by the festival.

He recalled that the National Sports Festival was created in 1973 to foster unity, resilience, and a strong national identity through sports.

By receiving the Touch, Abiodun said Ogun State has renewed its commitment to youth development and the celebration of Nigerian diversity.

He added that Ogun is ready to host the festival with vibrant culture, warm hospitality, and top athletic talent on display.

The governor expressed hope that the Touch of Unity would inspire love and togetherness among Nigerian youth.

The 22nd National Sports Festival kicks off this Friday.
