Ohanaeze Ndigbo elections hots up, as candidates emerge

The elections of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation holds before the end of December, 2016.

The positions of the President General, Secretary General, Deputy President General and Deputy Secretary General have been zoned to Enugu, Rivers, Imo and Abia states respectively while other position s are free for grabs or basketed to other states by the electoral committee.

It is known now that any officer of the body that has occupied any position twice is not eligible for the contest.

Meanwhile candidates have begun to emerge for the contest. 

In Enugu state, a former Minister of Information Bar Nnia Nwodo is on top the list being allegedly supported by the state government. 

Other candidates said to be in the race included Chief Enechi Onyia, SAN, Admiral Allison Madueke, Prof Chinweite Ejike, and Chief Ajogwu SAN.

For the Secretary General, the contest is between Barr Uche Okwukwu and Chief Omenazu all from Ikwerreland in Rivers state.

For Deputy President General the race is between Barr Reuben Okoro and Prof Uzodimma Nwala.

The Deputy Secretary General zoned to Abia state is being contested by Hon Chuks Ibegbu, a former Special Adviser to Ambassador Raph Uwechue, immediate Past President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, though there is also speculation that he may settle for the National Publicity Secretary . 

For the National financial Secretary , there is speculation that the present National Deputy Publicity Secretary of the body Barr Emejulu Okpalaukwu may go for it. 

More candidates are expected to emerge as the contest hots up.
