Olayinka blasts man for praying for Wike while wife battles cancer

(DDM) – Political aide and media strategist, Lere Olayinka, has stirred heated debate on social media after questioning the priorities of a man who allegedly focused on praying for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, while his own wife is said to be battling cancer.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Olayinka, who has often used social media to make controversial political interventions, took to his verified X account to criticize what he described as “misplaced priorities.”

He accused the unnamed man of abandoning his family responsibilities to engage in political devotion, suggesting that the energy directed towards prayer campaigns for Wike should instead be channeled into his wife’s health struggles.

In a strongly worded post, Olayinka declared: “Your wife is at home, suffering from CANCER, you are on Social Media shouting ‘Pray for Wike’ up and down. Who actually needs prayers? You or Wike? But how can a man with six wives care for the health of just one?”

The comment comes against the backdrop of growing speculation about Minister Wike’s health.

For several days, rumors circulated across social media alleging that the former Rivers State governor was critically ill.

Supporters and detractors alike engaged in heated arguments, with some online campaigns calling for prayers for his recovery.

Wike, however, publicly dismissed the claims. Speaking last week, he explained that he only took a short period off official duties to rest, insisting that reports of ill health were exaggerated by political opponents.

The minister also mocked those spreading such claims, saying that instead of writing condolence messages about him, they might end up having him sign their condolence books instead.

Olayinka’s reaction adds a new twist to the discourse. His direct attack on an individual allegedly praying for Wike while neglecting his cancer-stricken wife has been described by some as a bold call for personal accountability.

Others, however, viewed his remarks as insensitive and unnecessarily personal, especially given the severity of a cancer diagnosis.

Observers note that Olayinka’s history of blunt and confrontational commentary has often polarized public opinion.

While his supporters see him as a voice of truth who challenges hypocrisy, critics accuse him of exploiting personal matters for political points.

The incident highlights the tension between public political loyalty and private family responsibility in Nigeria’s social space.

Analysts say it also reflects the broader culture where political figures attract fervent public devotion, sometimes overshadowing pressing personal and community needs.

For now, Minister Wike has resumed official functions in Abuja, continuing his work as FCT Minister, while Olayinka’s post continues to generate widespread reactions online.
