Olisa Metuh, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing abandonment by his former party during difficult times.
Metuh, who turned 60 on Sunday, made the announcement at a thanksgiving service in Abuja attended by notable figures like Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim.
Metuh expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for extending support during his trials, despite their past differences.
“When I had problems, I did not see my party; I did not see the people I suffered for,” Metuh said, recalling how Tinubu sent then-Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila to comfort him.
Metuh dismissed concerns about Nigeria becoming a one-party state, citing credible opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and David Mark.
He emphasized the need for vibrant opposition to sustain democracy and pledged to contribute to national development through the APC.
“I want to assist the government at the centre to deliver the goods, the dividends of democracy,” Metuh said, expressing his commitment to resolving Nigeria’s challenges.
He revealed that Tinubu had approached him multiple times to join the APC, but he initially declined.
