Omisore Dismisses Opposition Coalition’s Threat to APC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and current senator, Iyiola Omisore, downplayed the impact of a growing opposition coalition.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he expressed confidence in the APC’s ability to maintain dominance in the 2027 general elections.

The opposition alliance features prominent political figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal.

However, Omisore argued that internal rivalries among coalition members could significantly undermine their efforts against the APC.

“Everyone wants to be president,” Omisore remarked, suggesting that the coalition’s unity is superficial and likely unsustainable.

He pointed out that several key figures within the alliance have already expressed presidential ambitions, leading to potential power struggles.

When asked about his concerns regarding the coalition’s strength, Omisore dismissed the notion confidently.

“No, I’m not worried at all. There are egos among them; all have the same goal.

After that meeting, Obi, Atiku, Rotimi, and Aminu all expressed presidential aspirations.

So, how can we be sure they will remain united? Let us watch and see. Politics is not mathematics; it’s reality.”

Omisore further argued that the coalition does not pose a significant threat to the APC’s national dominance.

He cited past electoral performances of its members in their respective states as evidence that their influence is limited.

“The majority of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) consists of former PDP members, with 85 percent now from PDP.

Furthermore, Rotimi Amaechi lost Rivers State, while El-Rufai’s team lost in Kaduna State.

Additionally, we did not win Anambra or Edo State, where a PDP governor currently serves.

Consequently, these results do not align,” he stated.

While acknowledging the coalition’s potential strength, Omisore argued that it may ultimately distract its members instead of uniting them against the APC.

He emphasized that such distractions could hinder their effectiveness in challenging the ruling party.

Thus, he questioned whether this coalition could genuinely pose a threat to APC’s dominance.

“To some extent, this coalition will keep them occupied.

However, as they become busier, we will refine our strategies.

We will also seek the best approaches to counter their efforts effectively.

Nevertheless, it is beneficial that they have formed this coalition.

Ultimately, it keeps them engaged in political activities,” he concluded.

As Nigeria nears another election cycle, political analysts speculate about whether opposition forces can unite and challenge the APC.

Currently, Omisore expresses confidence in his party’s ability to navigate the shifting political landscape and maintain its power.

He believes that strategic planning will be crucial for their success in the upcoming elections.
