Ona of Abaji Says Boko Haram Is Planning To Attack Abuja

Alhaji Adamu Yunusa has raised alarm over threats of attack by the Boko Haram outfit. He said that Boko Haram has threatened to attack the Federal Capital Territory through Abaji and neighbouring communities.

Alhaji Adamu Yunusa, who is the Ona of Abaji and Chairman FCT Council of Traditional rulers made the disclosure when in company of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, Shuaibu Gambo.

In responding to the traditional ruler, the DIG, Shuaibu Gambo, stated that security would be beefed up and also intelligence platforms will be deployed to Abaji and its environments. 

Ona of Abaji stated that there are threats of Boko Haram to attack their domain, when Gambo, who is in charge of North Central Zone of the country visited Abaji. 

DIG, Shuaibu Gambo, visit is as a routine tour usually embarked to oversee the happenings in the states within his zone.

Continuing, Ona of Abaji said: “We have been hearing that Boko Haram are planning to attack the FCT and the plan is to infiltrate and carry out the attack from Abaji. We will be the first casualty. We need the police now more than ever.

“Another issue that I want to bring to your attention is that of recruitment in the police. We discovered that recruitment is done by states but the FCT is not considered as a state. Even the big men in FCT will bring their candidates from these other states. I want to appeal that FCT indigenes be given special consideration in subsequent recruitments.” 

The traditional ruler also talked on the welfare of policemen, that adequate provision should be made for their accommodation and other necessities that will enhance their work.

While responding to the appeal made by the traditional ruler, DIG, Shuaibu Gambo, said that all the entreaties will be relayed to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris who will do justice to it.

Continuing he said, “The plan is that in the next 6 years, the Police should be allowed to recruit 30, 000 personnel every year to meet the security challenges confronting the nation.”

Saying, with that number over a period of time Nigeria police will overcome the shortage in manpower.
