Ondo high chief killed by gunshot during colleague’s burial

A traditional ruler in Ayeka, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, High Chief Akinwalere Akinola, has been shot dead during the burial ceremony of a fellow traditional ruler.

The incident occurred on Tuesday while traditional rulers and other members of the community were performing funeral rites for their late colleague.

A source in the community said a firearm was discharged during the ceremony, with the bullet hitting Akinola in the head.

The source said the traditional ruler died instantly.

The incident reportedly caused confusion in the community as the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said one suspect had been arrested.

He added that a thorough investigation had commenced to determine what led to the shooting.

“One suspect arrested. Meanwhile, thorough investigation has commenced,” the PPRO said.
