The Chairman of Owo Local Government Area, Tope Omolayo, was reportedly assaulted and stripped by suspected thugs shortly after resuming office following a six-month suspension.

The incident occurred in Ondo State, where tensions are said to have escalated around the local government secretariat as the chairman attempted to reclaim his position.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers stormed the premises, physically assaulted Omolayo, and forcibly removed parts of his clothing in a public display that has since drawn widespread condemnation.

Sources within the local government area suggest that the attack may be linked to ongoing political disputes and disagreements surrounding his suspension and return to office.

Observers note that attacks on public officials, particularly within government premises, raise serious concerns about security and political tolerance at the grassroots level.

Some analysts believe the incident reflects deeper divisions within local political structures, where disputes can sometimes degenerate into violence.

There have also been calls for a thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved, to serve as a deterrent against future acts of political thuggery.

Meanwhile, supporters of the chairman have expressed concern over his safety and urged authorities to provide adequate protection as he resumes his duties.
