Osun 2022: Bisi Akande, former APC nat’l chairman, loses local govt to PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has been declared the official winner of the governorship election in the Ila Local Government Area of Osun State, the home of the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Bisi Akande.

In the result of the Local Government, PDP secured 13,026 votes while the APC polled 9,562 votes.

Akande was deputy governor of Oyo State between 1979 and 1983 when Bola Ige was governor (Osun State was formerly part of Oyo State).

In 1999, he was elected governor of Osun State.

The 2022 Osun governorship election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is taking place in all the 30 local government areas of the state with 3,763 polling units and 332 registration areas.

The 15 political parties’ candidates participating in the election include: Mr Oyegoke Omigbodun, Social Democratic Party (SDP); Dr Akin Ogunbiyi (Accord); Mr Yusuf Lasun (Labour Party); Munirudeen Atanda (Action Democratic Party).
