OSOGBO, Nigeria — Music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke have called on residents to maintain peace before, during and after the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The appeal was made during the inauguration of a newly completed flyover in the state, where both speakers emphasised the importance of peaceful political participation and urged supporters across party lines to avoid violence and uphold democratic values.
Governor Adeleke said elections should be conducted in an atmosphere of peace, stressing that political differences must never lead to conflict or the destruction of lives and property. He urged political actors and their supporters to respect the rule of law and allow the democratic process to take its course.
Davido also appealed to residents, particularly young people, to remain peaceful throughout the election period. He encouraged citizens to participate responsibly in the electoral process while rejecting actions capable of disrupting public order or undermining the state’s stability.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure and development projects across Osun State, describing the newly inaugurated flyover as part of broader efforts to improve transportation, ease traffic congestion and support economic growth.
He noted that his government would continue implementing projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents while promoting sustainable development across the state. The administration, he said, remains focused on fulfilling its development agenda alongside preparations for the forthcoming election.
Political observers have consistently called for peaceful campaigns and issue-based politics ahead of the Osun governorship election, emphasising the need for all stakeholders to promote tolerance and democratic principles.
Security agencies have also repeatedly urged political parties, candidates and supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and comply with electoral laws to ensure a credible and violence-free election.
The event concluded with renewed appeals for unity, peaceful coexistence and responsible civic engagement, as both Davido and Governor Adeleke encouraged residents to place the state’s progress above political divisions and contribute to a peaceful electoral environment.
