On March 9, 2025, Governor Adeleke’s administration dismissed Osun APC’s petition as baseless and diversionary.
The Governor swiftly labeled the All Progressives Congress (APC) a “political distraction,” condemning its tactics amid rising public discontent.
Meanwhile, Adeleke accused the opposition of diverting scrutiny from corruption probes targeting ex-Governor Oyetola. He pledged strict accountability for past malpractices.
Instead, the government reiterated its commitment to addressing financial misconduct through its petition.
Consequently, the government voiced disappointment in APC’s response, decrying diversionary tactics to obscure crucial issues highlighted within the submitted petition to the EFCC.
Instead of addressing corruption allegations, the APC has allegedly spread falsehoods and propaganda.
Following thorough investigative measures by the current administration, the petition reached the EFCC on March 7, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in holding past leaders accountable and ensuring transparency in governance.
In early 2023, the government formed a Contract Review Committee. This committee audited financial transactions from the previous administration.
Their investigation exposed systemic irregularities, including corruption and due process breaches. These findings sparked public outcry and demands for accountability.
Subsequently, authorities established a White Paper Committee. Its mandate included reviewing evidence and ensuring transparency in the validation process.
After extensive deliberations, the committee recommended legal action against individuals implicated in the alleged misconduct.
Following extensive review, the Osun State Executive Council approved all recommendations in 2024 to address financial mismanagement.
Officials stressed transparency commitments, citing severe financial recklessness. “Inaction would’ve betrayed public trust,” their statement emphasized decisively.
Subsequently, authorities inaugurated the White Paper Implementation Committee later that year to oversee reforms’ execution.
The committee collaborated with legal experts to compile a comprehensive petition. They meticulously documented evidence and violations for accountability.
Subsequently, they submitted the petition to the EFCC, urging immediate investigation and potential prosecution of implicated individuals.
The government dismissed claims by the APC that the petition was politically motivated, describing such assertions as unfounded. “This is not a witch-hunt; it is an evidence-based pursuit of justice,” the statement concluded.
As the EFCC begins its review of the petition, all eyes remain on Osun State as residents await further developments in what promises to be a landmark case in the fight against corruption and financial mismanagement.
