Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has warned that he will seek the intervention of United States President Donald Trump if he believes the forthcoming Osun State governorship election is compromised.
Davido made the statement during a livestream with comedian and content creator Carter Efe, where he spoke about his political ambitions and concerns over the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
According to the singer, he is confident of winning any election if the process is free, fair and transparent, but expressed concern that election results are often manipulated.
“Until there’s transparency, then I can go ahead with politics because nobody can beat me in any election. If there’s a free and fair election, let everybody come out to vote, I will win. But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write the results,” he said.
Speaking on the upcoming Osun governorship election, Davido said he is closely monitoring the process and hopes it will be conducted fairly.
“I want to see what they are going to do in Osun. We are waiting,” he said.
The singer added that if he is dissatisfied with the conduct of the election, he will take his complaints beyond Nigeria by calling the attention of President Trump and other influential figures.
“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us.’ They think it’s a joke. Trump will just say, ‘I think there’s a Nigerian artiste sending me a message. Don’t worry, my message will be delivered,'” he said.
Davido concluded with a direct appeal over the election in his home state, saying: “Leave Osun alone.”
