The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is reviewing the results of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election before deciding on its next course of action.
The party, in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said its leadership was studying the results from all 332 wards across the state and would consider the constitutional options available to it.
The APC said an election process does not end with the declaration of results, noting that parties can seek redress through the Election Petition Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court where necessary.
Olabisi said the party would consult its legal team before deciding whether to challenge the outcome, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
He urged APC members and supporters to remain calm and avoid responding to provocative actions, while calling on the police to protect party members who he alleged had been molested by supporters of the ruling party.
The APC also reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, fairness and justice, stressing that it would explore all legally available options regarding the election outcome.
The statement followed the declaration of Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party as winner of the election. Adeleke polled 511,067 votes against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes.
Adeleke had said he expected Oyebamiji to call and congratulate him, but the APC’s latest statement indicates that the party is still reviewing the results and has not ruled out legal action.
