Iran’s military has announced a $30,000 bounty for anyone who kills or captures a US soldier during the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian Army chief, Amir Hatami, said the reward was introduced following what he described as numerous requests from people seeking to provide financial support to the military effort.
According to Iran’s state news agency, IRNA, anyone who kills or captures and hands over a US military personnel would receive $30,000, equivalent to about 5 billion Iranian tomans.
Hatami added that Iranian women who carry out such an act would receive double the reward.
He did not specify where or when US soldiers were expected to be targeted.
There has been no known deployment of US ground troops inside Iran during the war, apart from a rescue mission in April involving an American pilot whose aircraft had been shot down.
The conflict between Iran and the United States began on February 28, after the US, with Israel, launched attacks on Iran. An April ceasefire ended nearly 40 days of fighting, while a subsequent framework for peace talks collapsed in June.
Since then, Iran and the US have continued to exchange fire sporadically, with fighting concentrated mainly in southern Iran and around the Strait of Hormuz.
