Outburst after defeat: My emotions got better of me, I let myself down — Anthony Joshua
Nigeria-British born heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua has admitted that his emotions got better of him yesterday after he suffered another defeat in the hands of the Ukrainian champion, Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua after the judges declared Usyk as the winner of the bout through split decision went berserk and confronted the Ukrainian fighter, questioning how on earth he defeated him. He was heard asking Usyk, “How did you defeat me?”
The British boxer who appeared visibly frustrated went further to throw the ring magazine belt belonging to Usyk out of the ring. Though, he was able to make up for his actions after he congratulated the Ukrainian champion.
Joshua in a statement noted that he let himself down through his action, promising to be better from this point on.
The statement reads, “I wish Usyk continued success in your quest for greatness. You are a class act champ.
“Yesterday I had to mentally take myself into a dark place to compete for the championship belts! I had two fights, one with Usyk and one with my emotions and both got the better of me.
“I’ll be the first to admit, I let my self down. I acted out of pure passion and emotion and when not controlled it ain’t great.
“I love this sport so so much and I’ll be better from this point on.
