A 35-year-old man, Abdularazak Abdulkadir, has stabbed his biological mother to death in Kano. The shocking incident happened early Saturday at their home on No. 55 Freetown Street in Sabon-Gari.
According to reports, the victim, identified as 55-year-old Fatima Abdulkadir, was stabbed several times before neighbours arrived. They said the attack happened so quickly that no one could intervene in time.
Police sources said officers arrived to find the woman lying in a pool of blood. They added that Abdularazak had also stabbed himself in what looked like a deliberate attempt to create confusion. He was injured in a “safer part” of his body, according to investigators.
Both mother and son were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital. Doctors confirmed Fatima dead on arrival. The suspect survived his injuries, received treatment, and was later arrested. He has since been moved to the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Family members told Daily Sun that Fatima had been buried according to Islamic rites. They also alleged that Abdularazak was deeply involved in illicit drug use. They claimed he regularly consumed a potent form of cannabis known locally as “colos.”
Police sources say the suspect has remained uncooperative since his arrest. He has reportedly been unable to explain why he attacked his mother.
“This looks like a drug-induced homicide,” one police investigator said. “It could even be a cult-related spell. He is still behaving like a mentally unstable person. We may take him for further medical evaluation before arraigning him.”
Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident.
He said the suspect will face charges once investigations are complete.
