Over 13,000 Terrorists Killed, 17,000 Arrested In Two Years

(DDM) – Nigeria’s Minister of Information has reported significant progress in the country’s counter-terrorism operations over the past two years.

DDM gathered that the government claims over 13,000 terrorists have been killed while approximately 17,000 suspects were arrested during coordinated security efforts.

The minister highlighted that these operations targeted Boko Haram, Islamic State affiliates, and other criminal networks responsible for attacks across the North-East and other volatile regions.

He emphasized that the government remains committed to dismantling insurgent groups and restoring peace to affected communities.

According to the ministry, the operations involved collaboration between the Nigerian military, police, and other security agencies, supported by intelligence-driven strategies.

Observers say the figures demonstrate the federal government’s determination to curb terrorism, although some analysts caution that underlying socio-economic issues continue to fuel insecurity.

The minister noted that several high-profile insurgent leaders have been neutralized or captured, significantly disrupting terrorist operations.

He added that liberated areas are gradually returning to normalcy, with residents resuming farming, trade, and education after years of disruption.

Humanitarian agencies report that while security has improved in certain regions, displaced populations still face challenges including food shortages and limited access to basic services.

The minister reaffirmed that the government will maintain a strong presence in affected areas to prevent the resurgence of violence.

Security experts argue that sustained efforts are required to consolidate gains and prevent terrorist groups from regrouping or exploiting local grievances.

He stressed the importance of community engagement, noting that intelligence from local populations has been key to the success of operations.

The minister also urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies, reporting suspicious activities to help further reduce the threat of terrorism.

Political analysts note that the government’s announcement could boost public confidence in national security while also sending a strong signal to insurgents.

Despite the progress, experts caution that vigilance is necessary, as terrorist groups may adapt tactics and exploit gaps in governance and infrastructure.

The ministry assured that the federal government will continue funding security initiatives and collaborating with international partners to enhance operational effectiveness.

The minister concluded by reaffirming that Nigeria remains committed to achieving lasting peace and security across all regions.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant, supportive of security efforts, and hopeful that sustained actions will finally end years of insurgent violence.
