(DDM) – The parents of a three-year-old child battling a severe eye condition have made a public appeal for assistance, calling on prominent Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama and other well-meaning individuals to support their child’s urgent medical needs.

Hellen Asomah, the child’s mother, shared her family’s ordeal during an interview on Lawson Afisem, a programme hosted by MFK. In the emotional account, she explained that her daughter’s eye condition began after an accident at home.

According to her, the child was playing when she was accidentally struck in the eye by a slipper, an incident that later resulted in serious complications.

Hellen stated that what initially appeared to be a minor injury has since developed into a critical condition affecting the child’s eyesight. She described the situation as deeply distressing, noting that the family has struggled to secure the necessary funds for treatment.

The child is currently receiving medical attention at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where doctors have reportedly recommended surgery as part of efforts to address the condition. However, the family says they have been informed that a significant amount of money is required before the procedure can be carried out.

According to the mother, the financial demand is beyond what the family can afford. She explained that she and her husband are economically disadvantaged and rely largely on assistance from others for their daily survival. The mounting medical expenses have therefore placed them in an extremely difficult position.

“We have been told to bring money for the surgery, but we do not have it,” she lamented, appealing to compassionate individuals to come to their aid so their daughter can receive timely treatment.

Hellen’s appeal specifically mentioned Ibrahim Mahama and other wealthy Ghanaians, urging them to consider supporting the child’s medical care. She expressed hope that with the required intervention, her daughter may have a chance to regain her sight and live a normal life.
The family’s plea has drawn attention to the broader issue of access to healthcare and the financial challenges many families face when confronted with unexpected medical emergencies.
As of the time of this report, there has been no public response from the individuals mentioned.

However, the parents remain hopeful that their appeal will reach benevolent supporters willing to assist in covering the cost of the surgery and giving their child an opportunity for recovery.
