Paris Club Refunds are needed to pay workers’ salaries according to governors of the 36 Nigerian states.

This was made known to Elombah.com by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulaziz Yari, on Friday in Abuja.

In a statement issued by Head of Media and Public Affairs at the NGF Secretariat, Abulrazque Barkindo, he said that the governors took the decision at the end of their meeting, which was held in Abuja on Thursday night.

According to the statement, the governors met in anticipation of the release of the money, which had been approved for payment by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

It should be remembered that the money owed the state governors are up to the tune of N522.74 billion, while N388.304 was paid to them in December last year.

Abdulaziz Yari, complained that the governors are aware of the sufferings of their workers’ over the non-payment of their salaries and pensions.

Therefore, he said that the governors had discussed extensively on the matter and concluded that something immediate must be done to ameliorate the workers’ sufferings. Hence have agreed to pay their outstanding salaries and emoluments.

“We all agreed that a substantial amount from the next tranche of the Paris-London refunds be used in the settlement of workers’ salary and pension arrears,” he concluded.
