Pastor slumps, dies during church service

Pastor Vincent Alaku of the Church of The Brethren (EYN) in Moduganari, Maiduguri, Borno State, slumped and died while conducting a child naming and dedication service on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

According to media reports, Pastor Alaku was holding the microphone, leading the ceremony, when he suddenly collapsed mid-service.

Though, the exact cause of his death remains unclear as details are still emerging.

The church community expressed their grief on social media.

One member, Zaphaniah Kwaji, confirmed the pastor’s death, saying, “We regret to announce the sudden demise of the EYN Church Pastor serving in EYN LCC Moduganari, who passed away after collapsing during a child naming and dedication service. May he rest in peace.”

Another church member, Tankwa Chokali, expressed his shock, saying, “I have never seen something like this!

“He was acting in his capable role, and then suddenly collapsed. Much pain, confusion, and sadness. We will never forget this day, October 6, 2024, hit us hard.”
