PDP leadership crisis deepens as Ikenga Ugochinyere slams Anyanwu over National Secretary seat
DDM News

The ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn as Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives, launched a scathing attack on Senator Samuel Anyanwu for refusing to relinquish his position as the party’s National Secretary.
According to the information available to Diaspora digital media (DDM). Ugochinyere accused Anyanwu of undermining the PDP’s interests and acting as a covert agent for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The dispute, which has thrown the party into fresh turmoil, stems from a court ruling and a directive from the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) recognizing Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary.
However, Anyanwu has defied the BoT’s directive, insisting that the matter remains in court and dismissing the resolution as mere “advice.”
His refusal to step down has deepened divisions within the PDP, raising concerns about internal stability ahead of the next election cycle.
Ikenga Ugochinyere, who has been vocal about the issue, condemned Anyanwu’s defiance, alleging that the embattled National Secretary is deliberately working to destabilize the party.
According to Ikenga, Anyanwu’s actions suggest a hidden agenda aligned with the APC, a claim that has further fueled suspicions within the opposition party.
Ugochinyere maintained that the PDP leadership, including its governors and BoT members, has taken the right step by insisting on Anyanwu’s exit, emphasizing that their position aligns with the party’s interests.
The lawmaker reiterated that the court ruling affirming Ude-Okoye’s position as National Secretary must be respected to restore order within the PDP.
He accused Anyanwu of clinging to power for personal gain rather than prioritizing the party’s unity.
“This level of impunity is unacceptable. The PDP cannot afford to have individuals who undermine the party from within,” Ikenga Ugochinyere stated.
Ikenga further urged PDP stakeholders to remain resolute in defending the party’s internal democracy, warning that failure to address the crisis could have long-term consequences.
He stressed that the leadership must act decisively to prevent further erosion of confidence in the party’s structure.
Meanwhile, Anyanwu’s camp has continued to insist on his legitimacy, arguing that the legal battles surrounding the National Secretary position must be resolved before any transition takes place.
His supporters maintain that the BoT’s position does not carry legal weight, making his removal premature.
With tensions escalating, PDP members are watching closely as the crisis unfolds, knowing that its resolution—or lack thereof—could shape the party’s future ahead of the next general elections.
As Ikenga Ugochinyere continues to champion calls for Anyanwu’s removal, the party faces a crucial test of its ability to manage internal disputes and project unity on the national stage.
