DDM News

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally inducted 39 new members into its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The event took place on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the inauguration is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s leadership and stabilize its internal structure.
The ceremony was presided over by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara.
He described the occasion as a celebration of renewed purpose and a reaffirmation of PDP’s core values.
Wabara said the new members were nominated by state chapters and geopolitical zones of the party.
He emphasized that nominees were selected based on their dedication, experience, and unwavering loyalty to the PDP.
According to him, their appointments represent a commitment to unity, stability, and the vision of the party’s founding fathers.
He urged the newly inaugurated members to see their roles as calls to patriotic service.
Wabara stressed that the BoT must act as a stabilizing force during times of political uncertainty and conflict.
He added that the party is committed to repositioning itself as Nigeria’s leading political force.
Wabara said the board members must work to uphold the principles of democracy and national progress.
He also reminded them that their presence on the board is both an honour and a serious responsibility.
The acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, congratulated the appointees during the event.
Damagum was represented by the party’s acting National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo.
He assured the new members that the National Working Committee would continue to support the BoT in fulfilling its duties.
Among the 39 newly appointed members are prominent figures like Ibrahim Shekarau, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom, Labaran Maku, and Nimota Ibrahim.
The list also includes Jones Onyeriri and Eddy Olafeso.
Reacting to the appointment, Onyeriri said the composition of the board reflects the enduring strength of the PDP.
He downplayed the effects of recent defections from the party to rival political groups.
He likened the defections to biblical experiences, saying even Jesus Christ had disciples who left him.
Onyeriri declared that the PDP remains strong and undeterred despite these defections.
He emphasized that those undermining the party had already exited its fold.
Eddy Olafeso described the board’s inauguration as a symbolic return to the PDP’s glorious history.
He pledged to work with others to maintain the party’s relevance and restore its leadership in national affairs.
Olafeso said the party is poised to function as a vibrant opposition force armed with fresh ideas and renewed energy.
He also spoke on why he stepped down as South-West Vice Chairman during his bid for the Ondo governorship.
According to him, his resignation was guided by party discipline and democratic values.
He noted that the PDP’s constitution demands members vacate their current positions before contesting for other offices.
Olafeso insisted that discipline and commitment remain essential to the success of any democratic institution.
He reiterated his loyalty to the PDP and vowed to help resolve internal challenges facing the party.
The Board of Trustees is regarded as the conscience of the party, offering moral guidance and strategic counsel.
Political observers believe the revitalization of the BoT could play a critical role in shaping the PDP’s direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
With the inclusion of experienced leaders and loyal party stalwarts, the PDP hopes to rebuild and reposition itself for future success.
The newly inaugurated board is expected to serve as a moral compass and unify the party across its various factions.
This renewed structure marks a crucial step as the PDP navigates Nigeria’s complex political landscape.
