The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, His Excellency Peter Obi, has formally declared his intention to contest the presidency again in the upcoming 2027 general election.

Obi made the declaration in Onitsha on Friday, during the campaign flag-off rally of the LP’s governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State gubernatorial election, Chief George Moghalu.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Obi’s announcement was met with thunderous cheers from a mammoth crowd of party faithful, supporters, friends, and well-wishers gathered at the event.

He was accompanied by top officials of the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reinforcing the ongoing coalition talks ahead of 2027.

Obi used the occasion to clear the air over recent doubts surrounding his political allegiance, declaring unequivocally that he remains a card-carrying member of the Labour Party.

This clarification follows a 48-hour ultimatum issued by the embattled camp of LP National Chairman Barrister Julius Abure, which had asked him to resign over his coalition discussions with other opposition leaders.

According to Obi, the LP remains the bedrock of the coalition that agreed to adopt the ADC as a temporary political platform to strengthen unity and electoral strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

He emphasized that his presidential ambition is alive and remains rooted in the LP’s ideology of integrity, good governance, and service to the people.

Also present at the rally were Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Senator Victor Umeh (Anambra Central), LP members of the National and State Assemblies, and the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko.

Tanko addressed the crowd, stating that the hope of a new Nigeria rests on Obi’s emergence as president in 2027, adding that the Obidient Movement will intensify grassroots mobilization nationwide.

Senator Umeh, in his remarks, praised Chief Moghalu’s political journey and commitment to development, describing him as a man of integrity and deep capacity.

He urged Ndi Anambra to entrust him with the leadership of the state for a better future.

In his address, Chief Moghalu pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him if elected governor.

He promised to implement policies that would prioritize the welfare of the people, youth empowerment, infrastructure renewal, and transparent governance.

He assured voters that his administration would be people-centered, innovative, and committed to transforming Anambra State into a hub of excellence and economic prosperity.
