(DDM) – The Labour Party Governorship Campaign train, led by former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, on Tuesday, stormed the communities of Ukpo, Nawgu, Ukwulu, Nkwelle Ezunaka, Umunya, and Ogbunike in a major community-to-community outreach for the party’s Governorship Candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, and his running mate, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered from the GNM Media Center that the visit was part of a renewed grassroots mobilization drive to reconnect with voters and strengthen Labour Party’s presence across Anambra’s 21 local government areas ahead of the state’s forthcoming election.
Speaking at Ogbunike, Mr. Obi described the town as “a place of reference in Anambra State,” reminding residents that leadership must have “a human face anchored on compassion, competence, and commitment to service.”
Obi declared that his support for Dr. Moghalu and his running mate was not based on sentiment but on integrity and capacity.
“When I was governor, the work I did in Ogbunike is visible and not video noise,” Obi said.
“I am supporting George Moghalu and his deputy, your daughter, because they are competent and have the compassion required for leadership.
Please don’t sell your vote. Anyone who buys votes is doing business and will recover the money double when he gets into office.”
He further emphasized that education remains the most important investment in human life, assuring that Moghalu’s government would prioritize human capital development over political patronage.
The Labour Party campaign team also paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers across the six communities, receiving royal blessings and counsel from the monarchs.
Among those visited were HRM Igwe Sir George E. Okaa Onwuogu (KSM), HRM Igwe Ezeike of Ukwulu Kingdom, HRM Igwe Sir Obiora Anachuna, Igwe Orazulunye of Nkwelle Ezunaka, and HRH Igwe (Dr.) Robert Eze, Okofia VI of Ukpo.
In his address, Dr. George Moghalu assured the people that his administration would make education free and compulsory, revive the Scholarship Board to support indigent students, and abolish excessive taxation on traders.
He promised to tackle insecurity, end the activities of criminal gangs such as Ndi Aka Ọdọ, and introduce free medical care for citizens aged 65 and above alongside a monthly allowance for citizens over 70.
“We will construct durable roads that can stand the test of time, not the type that collapse after one rainy season,” Moghalu added, emphasizing that his government would prioritize accountability and good governance.
The Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, who was warmly received in her hometown of Ogbunike, urged her people to vote massively for the Labour Party, promising that their administration would be people-oriented, transparent, and focused on inclusive development.
Also in attendance was Hon. Uche Okafor (Wiper), former Transition Committee Chairman of Oyi Local Government, who called for unity among party members and expressed confidence that the Obi–Moghalu–Okaro alliance would deliver credible governance that reflects the will of the people.
According to GNM Media Center, the campaign’s success in these six communities demonstrated growing momentum and widespread acceptance of Labour Party’s message of hope, reform, and responsible leadership across Anambra State.
