(DDM) – Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has met with key political stakeholders in Katsina State, where he also condemned recent killings and called for urgent national reforms.
DDM learns that the visit followed his earlier engagement in Kaduna, after which he proceeded to Katsina to hold strategic discussions with members of his political movement.
During the visit, Obi met with notable figures including Dr. Mustapha M. Inuwa and Lawal Musa Daura, where they deliberated on the future of their party and Nigeria’s democratic direction.
He used the opportunity to express deep condolences to the people of Katsina State over the recent wave of violence that claimed innocent lives.
Obi described the killings as tragic and unacceptable, stressing that the loss of innocent citizens highlights the urgent need for improved security across the country.
He warned that any nation that fails to protect its people cannot achieve meaningful progress or development.
The former Anambra State governor emphasised that safeguarding lives must remain the primary responsibility of government at all levels.
In his discussions with stakeholders, Obi reiterated his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and building a nation where the welfare of citizens is prioritised.
He stressed the importance of investing in women and youths, describing them as critical drivers of national development and long-term stability.
According to him, deliberate efforts must be made to equip young people and women with the necessary skills, opportunities, and support systems to contribute effectively to society.
Obi further noted that Nigeria’s future depends on intentional planning and responsible leadership rather than chance or political rhetoric.
He called for a shift away from divisive politics rooted in ethnicity, religion, and entitlement, urging Nigerians to embrace merit, integrity, and competence as the foundation for leadership selection.
He maintained that although the country faces numerous challenges, they can be overcome through collective responsibility and the willingness to make the right decisions.
The former presidential candidate encouraged citizens to remain committed to nation-building, urging them to contribute quietly and diligently to the development of a better Nigeria.
