Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi

Dr. Moses Paul, a senior aide to former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has discredited a trending video falsely suggesting that Obi endorsed a dubious financial investment platform.

In a public statement made via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Dr. Paul categorically dismissed the circulating video as fabricated and malicious.

He revealed that the video was artificially generated using advanced AI technology, crafted with the deliberate intention of misleading the public and damaging Mr. Obi’s reputation.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirms that the viral footage is part of a growing trend of online misinformation campaigns targeting high-profile public figures in Nigeria.

The false video appears to show Mr. Obi promoting an investment opportunity that promises unusually high returns, a common tactic used in online fraud schemes.

Dr. Paul emphasized that at no time has Mr. Obi endorsed any financial scheme or investment opportunity, particularly those that exploit the public’s trust.

He maintained that Obi remains fully committed to ethical leadership and transparency, principles he consistently demonstrated during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.

He further warned that the increasing use of artificial intelligence to spread falsehoods poses a serious danger to public discourse, democratic values, and the integrity of digital communications.

According to Paul, AI-generated misinformation could distort facts so convincingly that unsuspecting citizens may fall victim to fraudulent schemes or develop mistrust toward credible public figures.

Dr. Paul urged Nigerians to be vigilant and discerning, especially when confronted with videos or posts that appear sensational or too convenient to be true.

He encouraged the public to verify the authenticity of digital content before sharing or reacting, highlighting the importance of media literacy in the age of artificial intelligence.

He stressed that such disinformation campaigns are not only harmful to individuals like Mr. Obi but also to the larger democratic process, as they erode trust in leadership and governance.

The statement by Dr. Paul comes amid increasing concerns about the use of deepfake technology to manipulate public opinion and sway electoral outcomes.

This incident is part of a growing global conversation about regulating AI content and enforcing digital accountability.

By setting the record straight, Dr. Paul reaffirmed Mr. Obi’s commitment to truth, integrity, and the protection of citizens from deceptive online practices.
