Petroleum, Environment and Solid mineral’s Degradation Awareness Association members during the maiden meeting at Owerri

The Petroleum, Environment and Solid mineral’s Degradation Awareness Association (PESMDAA) has held its maiden meeting.

The meeting which held at City Chef Hotel Owerri on Wednesday 16th July had the Commissioner Designate, the 17 LGA chairmen, the directors
and other stakeholders in attendance.

Addressing participants at the meeting, the Commissioner Designate and the State Coordinator of the association, Hon Chief Sam Akah said the association It’s an international body but rooted in Nigeria.

Adding that it was founded by great men who belong to the society and for the wellness of our environment.

He said: “So we are trusted with ensuring that our environment is a wonderful environment, that Oil theft, bunkering and related issues are things of the past.

“Because you and I know that the bunkering is a sabotage, we have gathered young men who have good academic qualifications to tackle it.

“We are ready to move this nation forward and ensuring that the practices of Illegalities are no longer part and parcel of our society.

“Mostly when it has to do with the economy of this nation, whereas a lot of gentlemen are passed out of the university without a job.

“And this saboteurs have continued to steal and make the nation miserable through illicit practices as it affects our society”.

The former Executive Chairman of Ikeduru Local government said, “We are waiting for our inauguration.

“That inauguration will put you in the spotlight of Imo State and the society, because the job you are going to do will be enviable to everybody.

Hon Akah noted that though all of us are products of yesterday’s politics, but he assured that today he is born again and no longer see life as do or die having known the vanity of life.

He said he has sworn that the rest part of his years on earth shall be committed to positivity and no more negativity, no matter how it comes.

“So, let us impact on our society, so that at the end of the day, what we have done and left behind will speak for us.

“So, you are the chosen ones of this generation, because whether we like
it or not, we dwell on earth, and must do all that is possible to ensure that earth is made better for us.”

The former LGA Service Commissioner said that the Federal Government of Nigeria knows
about the association.

Adding that in no distant time, the association is going to transmute into something
enviable.

“That means that you must be both spiritually and physically strong, so that nobody will take your place”, he stated.

He assured the participants that because they began with him, they’lll not be cheated out of it.

Akah urged them to be committed to the assignment as it has nothing to do with politics.

“But imagine our crowd. By the time we have five men from each ward committed to what we are doing, even though we are apolitical but they’ll look for us”, he said.

Chief Akah assured the participants who are mostly graduates that though politics has become an arena of idiots but that they will take their place in leadership through the association.

“I think we have arrived at a point in the forum where we can vehemently say that we are going to take charge.

“And Imo, for example, will hear from us for good and not for bad.We are going to heal our society.

“The pollution that we see everywhere, even along the Wethedral road are irritating and must be eradicated “, he said.

 

The Coordinator reiterated that there are spots where bunkers are.

“Go to the villages and communities, these things are going on there.

“Our farms are no longer an issue or problem of herders. but the lands have refused to yield because of pollution orchestrated by bunkering activities.

“How many of us as black Africans
have respect for earth?

“We have come to interact, I’ve come to introduce this organization to 27 gentlemen, men and women.

“But after today we are going to instill serious disciplinary action on latecomers.

“Because if we begin to apply African time system, this organization will not move forward.

“So we have to become self-disciplined, first of all,and then take what we have come to do seriously.

“The one thing that is very important
is that it is a very big privilege,
because I know what we have.

“So let us guide it as though our life depends on it,” Akah stated.

Engr Emmanuel Ihemamadu one of the directors and Coordinator Okigwe zone also urged the LGA chairmen to see this assignment as a privilege.

He said the actions and inactions of each and every one of us will determine how far we will go with this association.

Ihemadu urged the participants not to take advantage of this position to intimidate other people but should wait for full authority before acting.

He enjoined them no to misuse the coat of arms or power when it is given them as the coat of arms is the symbol of authority and of loyalty.

He also enjoined them to work hand in hand with any other authority that comes their way in the process of their job.

Ihemadu said this is the first time an association will be filled with graduates.

He urged them not to bring in ego or pride into work but harmoniously work with the people.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA , Engr Ndu Madu and the coordinating Co-ordinator thanked the Commissioner for finding them worthy for the assignment and promised that they will deliver.

He urged the participants to remain committed to the assignment and prayed the Almighty God to help the association.
