Former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has procured the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC ) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.

He announced this development in a statement issued on Saturday.

Malami said worsening insecurity, poverty and economic challenges confronting residents informed his decision to join the race.

He criticised the condition of governance in the state, alleging that Kebbi is facing severe humanitarian and socio-economic difficulties

He cited figures relating to education, poverty, healthcare and insecurity, claiming that more than 67 per cent of children between the ages of six and 15 are currently out of school, while over 88 per cent reportedly live in multidimensional poverty.

Malami also expressed concern over the state of healthcare delivery, noting that maternal mortality remains alarming, especially in rural communities where access to antenatal and basic medical services is limited.

On security, he lamented that persistent attacks by bandits and kidnappers had continued to disrupt economic activities in several communities, forcing many farmers off their lands and creating fear among residents and business owners.

The ADC aspirant accused the present administration of focusing on the wrong priorities despite the challenges facing citizens across the state.

While declaring what he described as a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance” in Kebbi State, Malami promised to focus on security, education, healthcare, agriculture and youth development if elected governor in 2027.

According to him, his aspiration is grounded in service, accountability and sustainable growth, adding that the state must move away from ineffective leadership and propaganda-driven governance.
