PHOTOS: Nigeria Must Go protest erupts in Ghana

Hundreds of Ghanaians protested in city streets on Tuesday, demanding the removal of Nigerian nationals amid claims of rising crime and cultural tensions.
Demonstrators marched with placards bearing messages like “End ritual murders now” and “Protect our children from foreign predators.”
They accused Nigerian immigrants, particularly those of Igbo descent, of illegal business practices, moral decay, and economic displacement.
Protesters alleged Nigerians were involved in prostitution rings, occult activities, and had taken control of local marketplaces, land, and commerce.
Some claimed Nigerians had installed their own traditional leaders, sparking frustration among locals.
The protests evoke memories of 1983, when Nigeria expelled nearly two million undocumented immigrants, mostly Ghanaians, under President Shehu Shagari’s administration.
This incident led to the term “Ghana Must Go” becoming synonymous with a type of luggage.
As of now, Ghanaian officials in Accra have not made an official statement regarding the growing unrest or clarified plans to respond to protesters’ demands.
