The Oyo State Police Command has arrested an Islamic cleric identified as Alfa Bashiru after he was found with suspected human flesh.
Police spokesperson CSP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the arrest on Thursday, September 18, in a statement shared via the Command’s official X, formerly Twitter handle.
According to him, officers of the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG at the Toll Gate axis of the Ibadan Expressway around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The suspect was allegedly on board the vehicle.
When questioned, Bashiru reportedly admitted that he bought the suspected human flesh in Lagos.
Case Transferred to Homicide Unit
The suspect has been handed over to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku for further investigation.
“The suspected item is undergoing forensic analysis to determine its authenticity and source,” Osifeso explained.
In a separate operation, officers conducting a Stop and Search recovered an abandoned Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX.
The driver reportedly fled after being flagged down, leaving the vehicle behind.
Osifeso said the car had been taken into police custody.
He urged anyone with valid documents to come forward to reclaim it.
The spokesman emphasized that the Stop and Search strategy was a deliberate effort to curb crime and safeguard residents across Oyo State.
He added that Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna appreciated the cooperation of the public and assured them that the Command would sustain its fight against crime to create a safer environment.
