Police in Nasarawa State have arrested a notorious armed robber linked to violent crimes across multiple regions, marking a major step in dismantling his gang.

Recently, operatives from the Nigeria Police Force’s Scorpion Squad captured 30-year-old Auwal Ibrahim Sani from Kaduna State after raiding Mararaba Garage early on March 26.

Authorities confirmed Sani’s role in a series of home invasions where he and his gang targeted residents with assault rifles.

According to intelligence reports, his group terrorized communities, including a brutal October 2024 robbery in Abuja’s Wuye district.

During the attack, they stormed a home on Ken Nnamani Street at 3:30 a.m., assaulted occupants Helen Ogbolu and Ojo Otobo, and stole vehicles, jewelry, and electronics.

Investigators later recovered the silver Honda Accord abandoned nearby, leading to three arrests, but the maroon Honda remains missing.

During questioning, Sani admitted operating within a seven-member crew armed with AK-47s and pistols, naming Ibrahim, Ismail, Sadiq, Jabire, and Bala as accomplices.

While Sani remains in custody, his associates evade capture, prompting a statewide manhunt.

Police are prioritizing recovering stolen goods and securing the gang’s weapons to prevent further violence.

Authorities have reassured the public of their commitment to resolving the case, urging communities to report suspicious activities.

“We will pursue every lead until all suspects face justice,” a police spokesperson stated, emphasizing collaboration between law enforcement and civilians.

This arrest reflects broader efforts to curb rising insecurity, particularly in regions plagued by armed robberies.

Residents praised the police’s swift action but expressed concern over lingering threats.

“We feel safer knowing one criminal is off the streets, but others are still out there,” a local shopkeeper remarked.

Security checkpoints have increased in Nasarawa, with officers scrutinizing vehicles matching the missing Honda’s description.

Forensic teams continue analyzing evidence from recovered items, while patrols monitor known hideouts.

The police advise victims of similar crimes to come forward, as additional testimonies could strengthen charges against the gang.
