Police Arrest over 300 crime suspects in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested over 300 suspects in a raid on criminal hideouts in various locations in Abuja.
The suspects, who claimed to be scavengers, were arrested on Wednesday by the tactical team led by FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh.
According to Igweh, the suspects were found with generators, cutlasses, guns, and other valuables suspected to have been stolen from innocent residents.
He expressed shock at the scavengers’ method of operation, saying, “These people are not ordinary human beings. But we will get rid of them and peace will be restored in the FCT for residents to enjoy normal life.”
The police recovered two sophisticated guns and weapons from the suspects, as well as household valuables.
Igweh noted that a good number of the scavengers arrested were not Nigerians.
When asked about the inclusion of minors among the arrestees, Igweh said, “I’m not a medical doctor nor their parents to ascertain their ages.”
The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of screening and investigation.
The police commissioner vowed to keep the city safe, saying, “Our duty is to keep them off the City; it’s no longer business as usual.”
