Police arrest Suspected IPOB members; recover N10 Million; others

The Imo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to combat terrorism and insecurity in the state.

On April 17, 2025, the police arrested three suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and recovered N10.3 million in cash, believed to be contributed by IPOB members to finance acts of terrorism .

The suspects, aged 21, 31, and 37, were arrested during a gun battle at a suspected IPOB hideout on Cameron Street, Ubahu, in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.

Two other suspects escaped into the surrounding bushes during the operation .

The police recovered the following items from the scene ; N10.3 million in cash: believed to be contributed by IPOB members to finance acts of terrorism.

One AK-47 rifle, a high-powered firearm commonly used in terrorist activities.

Two pump-action shotguns: firearms often used in violent attacks.

18 live cartridges: ammunition for the firearms.

Multiple mobile devices and laptops: potentially used for communication and coordination among IPOB members.

The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the recovered funds and the extent of the suspects’ involvement in IPOB’s activities.

The arrest and seizure are seen as major steps toward crippling the financial base of the group in the region.

The Imo State Police Command remains committed to sustaining the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements threatening public safety in the state .

The arrest of the suspected IPOB members and the recovery of the N10.3 million highlight the ongoing security challenges in Imo State and the South-East region.

IPOB and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have been accused of instigating violence and insecurity in the region.
