Police begin enforcement of tinted glass permit

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the immediate nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) starting Thursday, October 2, 2025.

This directive, in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004, aims to bolster national security, curb criminal activities, and enhance public safety.

The Nigeria Police Force announced that the grace period for obtaining or renewing TGPs has ended, and all vehicles with tinted glass must now have valid and verifiable permits.

Motorists are required to present these permits to law enforcement officers upon request. Failure to comply will result in penalties, including vehicle impoundment and possible legal action.

Routine checks will be conducted, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State, by designated enforcement teams. Motorists are urged to apply for or revalidate their permits via the official police portal, (link unavailable), to avoid sanctions.

The police emphasized that compliance is both a legal obligation and a step toward ensuring public safety.
