Police detain Amotekun official for allegedly shooting policeman
The Oyo State Police Command said it has arrested one Ibrahim Ogundele, an official of the Oyo State Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, for allegedly shooting a policeman.
This was disclosed in a statement by the State Police spokesman, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, Monday morning.
Ogundele was arrested in Sanga area of Oyo town at the weekend after he reportedly fired shot at Mr. Fatai Yekini, a special police constabulary attached to Ojongbodu Police Station in Oyo town.
According to Mr. Fadeyi, the wounded police officer, Yekini, is responding to treatment at the Oyo State General Hospital, Owode, Oyo.
He said the incident occurred when police officers at Ojongbodu Division went to dislodge youths holding a carnival despite Covid-19 directives.
He noted that the Amotekun personnel has been detained at the police station and will be charged to court when investigation is concluded.
