Police dismiss constable for raping 16-yr-old girl in detention

Police authorities in Benue State has dismissed one Belasa Iyangedue, a constable, for allegedly forcefully having carnal knowledge of a 16-year-old girl who was in detention.

The victim was being detained on August 15 for alleged defamation at the Divisional Police headquarters, Tse Agbaragba, in Konshisha local government area of the state.

The constable reportedly pretended to be helping the girl, went into the female cell, took her into an office and raped her.

The underage girl was said to have reported the case to the DPO. This led to the arrest of the constable and the case was brought to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi.

This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka on October 3rd in Makurdi, the state’s capital.

According to the CP, “He was not only dismissed but he is facing prosecution. When civilians commit such offences they are prosecuted. He is facing dismissal and prosecution.”
