Police DPO Dies After Surgery in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed her passing in a statement released on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Adebisi said Ngbaronye died on Friday after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre in Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

Describing her death as a painful loss, Adebisi noted that the late officer was known for her professionalism, discipline, and commitment to duty.

She said Ngbaronye served the Nigeria Police Force with integrity and courage, earning respect from both colleagues and residents.

“She was a disciplined and upright officer who demonstrated exceptional professionalism throughout her career,” Adebisi stated.

The police spokesperson added that Ngbaronye was widely admired for her humane approach to policing, which helped strengthen the relationship between the police and the community in Festac and beyond.

“She was diligent, disciplined, and deeply devoted to her work. Her passing has left a vacuum in the Command,” Adebisi said.

According to her, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohumdare Jimoh, has expressed deep condolences to the deceased officer’s family, her aged mother, and colleagues.

The Commissioner personally reached out to Ngbaronye’s husband and elder brother, who is a priest, to offer the Command’s sympathy and support during this difficult time.

Adebisi added that burial arrangements would be announced later, while the Command continues to mourn one of its finest officers.

She prayed for the repose of Ngbaronye’s soul and for God to grant her family the strength to bear the loss.
