Police inspector shoots officer’s wife to death, injures 2 others

A police inspector attached to the Cross River State Police Command, has shot and killed a woman while injuring two others in a violent incident on Sunday.

The unfortunate incident was confirmed by the spokesman of the command in Calabar, SP Irene Ugbo.

He said the officer displayed unusual behavior before opening fire.

The police image maker further revealed that the officer, who was assigned to the Atakpa Divisional Police Station had just returned from a night shift at a microfinance bank when the shooting occurred.

“The police have taken the suspect into custody, and the injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment,” she said.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that the inspector started acting erratically upon his return from duty.

“He blocked the station’s gate, preventing entry and exit. All attempts to calm him down and disarm him peacefully failed.

“Tactical teams were deployed to the scene, but he became agitated and began shooting indiscriminately. In the process, he shot three people, including the deceased—a 41-year-old woman who was the wife of a retired police officer—and two others,” a source said.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
