The Enugu State Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the killers of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya, who was shot dead on September 19 on the Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Nsukka Local Government Area.
A statement issued on Sunday by SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesman said that the Commissioner, Mamman Giwa, has ordered that the killers of the priest must be traced and brought to book.
Ndukwe said that the CP ordered the Area Commander, Udenu Area Command and heads of Tactical and Operational Units in the command to smoke out the killers.
Meanwhile, 38 suspects, according to Ndukwe, have been detained following bush combing and raids in the area, with incriminating exhibits recovered.
“Incriminating exhibits were recovered, while the suspects are currently undergoing screening.
“The commissioner has commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased and the Catholic Church.
“He reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to leave no stone unturned in apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bringing them to justice,” Mr Ndukwe said.
