Police kills man claiming to be “Jesus and God” amid altercation

Florida police has reportedly shot and killed a man who claimed to be “Jesus and God” after he violently attacked his parents and fired at officers on Friday, April 18, 2025.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said 34-year-old Wayne Volz pistol-whipped his mother and knocked down his father during a domestic dispute at their home in Fort Meade around 11:30 a.m on Friday.
Volz reportedly called his mother “the devil” and told his father, “Do you want to die today?” when he tried to intervene.
Volz took his parents’ phones and held them hostage for hours while ranting about being a divine figure.
He also threatened to kill people in Bartow, according to Sheriff Grady Judd.
Later that afternoon, Volz drove with his father to a Lowe’s store in Bartow, where his father told coworkers about the situation. The employees hid him and called 911.
Deputies and Bartow police officers responded. They used drones to locate Volz, who was walking near the store.
Officers ordered him to stop, but he ran and opened fire on a patrol car, shooting seven to eight times.
One bullet struck Deputy Edwin Alexander.
Police returned fire. One bullet hit Officer Mark Sills in the chest. They shot Volz during the exchange and took him to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Authorities said Volz had a history of drug abuse. Sheriff Judd confirmed that both the injured deputy and officer are expected to recover.
Investigators from the Officer Involved Deadly Incident Task Force and the Polk County Sheriff’s Administrative Unit have opened an investigation.
The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
The sheriff’s office pledged transparency and assured the public that all protocols will be followed.
