Police launches squad for troubled Southern Kaduna

The police have constituted a Joint Tactical Operation Squad to restore peace to troubled Kafanchan and neighbouring communities in Southern Kaduna.

The Nigeria Police Force set up the squad because of the recent sectarian crisis in the communities in Kaduna state where so many lives were lost and property destroyed,

The headquarters of the squad is in Kafanchan, where it would monitor security in other communities.

The squad is made up of Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Intelligence Response Team, the IGP Monitoring Unit, Police K9 (Sniffer Dog Section), Police Air wing and Police Medical Team.

The formation of the squad was announced in a statement by the Deputy Inspector General (Operations) at the headquarters, Mr Habila Joshak, on Saturday.

The operations would cover the entire Southern Kaduna, he said.

Joshak flag off this Joint Operations Squad on behalf of the Inspector General of Police to ensure that total peace and normalcy is restored to Kafanchan and environs.

In order to achieve success, the Squad would be proactive, work on actionable intelligence and carry out massive deployment and twenty four and ensure surveillance and patrol.

It would embark on continuous raids of identified criminal hideouts to arrest promptly trouble makers and their sponsors and nip in the bud violent acts and other criminalities in the general area.

The deployment of the Joint Tactical Squad personnel will cover all the communities, towns, villages, vulnerable points, government and private infrastructure and facilities.

Police helicopters would embark on guided missions and aerial surveillance of the entire area and would operate in synergy with other formations on the ground.

“Traditional rulers, religious leaders, public office holders, politicians, opinion leaders, parents and guardians are hereby called upon to prevail on their subjects, supporters, children and wards to support the Police personnel in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“The operation is to propagate peace, demonstrate love, forgiveness and tolerance to promote harmonious coexistence with their brothers and fellow citizens, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political inclinations and differences.’’

He said that the police would wish to assure the people and communities of Southern Kaduna of adequate security and protection.
