The Imo State Police Command has arrested 24-year-old Wisdom Onyeaju for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.
The incident sparked outrage after the victim’s sister posted a video on social media, claiming police officers demanded ₦100,000 before taking the victim’s statement.
The police have also detained officers accused of misconduct and will face an orderly room trial starting January 12, 2026.
A statement issued on Thursday by the state Police spokesman, DSP Okoye Henry, confirmed that “Onyeaju, a 24-year-old male of Umuekweye, Irete, Owerri-West Local Government Area, was arrested in connection with an alleged case of defilement.
“The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing thorough investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
“Upon conclusion of investigation, he will be arraigned in court with the appropriate charge(s).”
The statement added: “The command has identified and detained the police officers alleged to have been involved in professional misconduct in the course of handling the case.
“An orderly room trial has been scheduled to commence on Monday, January 12, 2026, to address the misconduct in line with extant police regulations.”
The command reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring justice will be served.
